Mid-Columbia sports roundup for Saturday, Feb. 6
The Chiawana Riverhawks ran away with the Mid-Columbia Conference 4A district team title Saturday in Walla Walla, rolling up 374 points to easily pull away from second-place Pasco (247.5).
The Riverhawks crowned seven champions, including Levi McBride (220), Kameron Silvers (195), Cory Johnson (160), Bryce Buckley (152), Nathan Bengen (126), Joshua Miranda (120) and Morgan McFee (106).
“We did great,” Chiawana coach Jack Anderson said. “All of our guys contributed, even the guys who didn’t qualify wre on the back side scoring points, Everything was firing on all cylinders.”
Pasco was second in the team standings with 247.5 points, followed by Walla Walla (235) and Richland (186).
The top two in each weight class advance to the regional tournament next week at University High School in Spokan, where they will compete against wrestlers from the Greater Spokane League and the CBBN.
The Bulldogs had two champions — Victor Ramirez (113), Jake Covington (138), while Richland got top finishes from Patrick Workman (145), Nic Workman (285), Noah Reyes (132) and Isaac Lovato (182). The host Blue Devils picked up a win from top-seeded Andrew Granchukoff at 170.
Anderson was especially pleased with freshman Morgan McFee.
“He beat two guys he lost to during the season, then pinned the kid (Richland’s Xavier Zavala) in the final,” Anderson said.

GIRLS DISTRICT 5-6 SUBREGIONALS: Sunnyside ruled the day, crowning three champions as they rolled to the team title with 316 points.
The top four in each weight class will advance to regionals next weekend at Othello High School, where they will be joined by teams from Districts 5-9.
Grandview had three champs — Viannei Perez (105), Jasel Perez (120) and Desiree Zavala (145) — as the Greyhounds picked up second place with 133 points.
Hailey Hall (140) and Jesse Lobos (155) won titles for Pasco, which was third with 113 points.

RICHLAND 66, CHIAWANA 54: Steven Beo had 22 points, nine rebounds and three assists, Landon Radliff added 14 points and six assists, and the Bombers put the finishing touches on an undefeated run through the Mid-Columbia Conference.
Tyler Kurtz had 15 points and nine rebounds for Richland (17-4, 14-0), which is off until next Saturday when it hosts the MCC 4A district title game.
Andrey Voloshin scored 19 points for the Riverhawks (11-9, 6-8), who host Pasco in a loser-out district game Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
CHIAWANA 73, RICHLAND 57: Chiawana’s Braydey Hodgins scored a school-record 46 points, and the Riverhawks (19-2 overall) completed a 14-0 record in Mid-Columbia Conference action with a road win over the Bombers.
The Riverhawks outscored the Bombers 32-13 in the second quarter to take a 47-30 halftime lead.
Chiawana is the No. 1 seed in the MCC Class 4A district tournament. The Riverhawks will host the district championship game next Saturday.
Richland (16-4, 11-3 MCC), led by Gia Sorn’s 19 points, is the No. 2 district seed. The Bombers are off until Friday, when they will host the winner of Tuesday’s Pasco-Walla Walla game.
