College update: Bartlow earns all-conference nod at EOU

Eastern Oregon University quarterback Zach Bartlow (Waitsburg) was named to the Frontier Conference first team recently.

Bartlow threw for 2,498 yards and 23 TD passes and rushed for 554 yards and 9 TDs. He finished 9th in the nation in total offense (passing and rushing) with 3,042 yards.

He was also selected to the academic all-conference team a few weeks ago (3.60 GPA in business).

ALASKA FAIRBANKS: Kensey Mix (Southridge) led the 6-21 volleyball team in blocks this season, with 72. She was fourth on the team with 139 kills.

BIOLA (CALIF.): Lisa Tixier (Hanford) won the 200 butterfly in 2:08.91 in a women’s swim meet against Azusa Pacific on Nov. 7. Biola lost 144-61.

BYU: Defensive back Matt Hadley (Connell) has 17 tackles (2 for loss) for the football team this season. He’s also broken up two passes

CAL STATE EAST BAY: Shannon Bland (CBC) had 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals as the women’s basketball team beat CSU San Bernardino 76-55 on Dec. 1. ... Kylie Fraga (Southridge) led the 6-22 volleyball team in assists this season with 579.

CARROLL: Crystal Schmidt (Hermiston) was named first-team All-Frontier Conference and an NAIA honorable mention All-American in volleyball. Schmidt played in all 31 matches for the 19-12 Saints this season. She was second on the team with 304 kills and had 102 blocks.

CWU: Jonathan Lafferty (Kamiakin) finished 53rd in the NCAA D-2 West Regional cross country championships Nov. 7, running the 10K in 31 minutes, 33.58 seconds.

CORBAN: Freshman forward Lexi McQueary (Kamiakin) finished tied for first in the scoring lead for the 7-11-1 women’s soccer team. McQueary had five goals and one assist this season, while playing in 15 matches, starting in five of them.

EOU: Amanda Miller (Kamiakin) was named an NAIA honorable mention All-American this season for the volleyball team. She was also a member of the AVCA First-Team All-Northwest Region squad, and she was first-team All-Cascade Collegiate Conference. Miller led EOU with 326 kills. Teammate Sierra Linke (Pasco) had 110 kills this season. The Mountaineers (25-6) went 1-2 at the NAIA National Championships earlier this month. . ... Case Rada (Kamiakin, Walla Walla CC) scored 16 points in a 72-69 men’s basketball loss to College of Idaho on Dec. 1. ... Maloree Moss (Hermiston) had 6 points, 6 assists to lead the women’s basketball team past College of Idaho 55-41 on Dec. 1. ... Fredy Rodriguez (CBC) was an honorable mention selection for men’s soccer on the All-Cascade Collegiate Conference team. Rodriguez led the 7-9 men’s team with 11 points (4 goals, 3 assists). Defender Osvaldo Martinez (CBC) and midfielder Jovan Rojas (Pasco) each had 6 points this season. Adonis Chavarin (Walla Walla CC) started 13 matches at defender, while defender Edgar Cano (CBC) started 12 matches.

EWU: Offensive lineman Aaron Neary (Hanford) was named first-team All- Big Sky Conference in football for the season consecutive season. Linebacker Miquiyah Zamora (Chiawana) led the 6-5 football team in tackles this season with 101. He also had 2.5 sacks, 1 forced fumble and three pass breakups. ... The women’s soccer team finished with a 12-4-3 record and played in the Big Sky Conference tournament before being eliminated by Sacramento State 3-1. Former Pasco High star Chad Bodnar coached the Eagles in his second season at the Cheney school. Forward Delaney Romero (Walla Walla CC) had three goals and two assists for the Eagles, while forward Alexis Stephenson (Chiawana) had an assists in 19 matches. ... Katie Mahoney (Richland) finished 105th overall at the NCAA West Regional Cross Country Championships. Austin Oser (Kamiakin) placed 118th overall for the men’s team.

EVERGREEN STATE: Jorden Porter (Walla Walla CC) was ranked second on the 5-20 volleyball team this season in kills with 247 and in service aces with 18. ... Crisantos Chavez (Mabton) had two goals and an assist for the 13-3-2 men’s soccer team this season. Teammate Martin Ramirez (Pasco, Walla Walla CC) added a goal and an assist.

GEORGE FOX: Anthony Galat (Richland) kicked two field goals and was 17-for-17 in extra point kicks for the 4-6 football team.

GONZAGA: Senior Heather Johnson (Southridge) was named to the West Coast Conference Women’s Soccer All-Academic Team for the third time. Johnson has a 3.77 GPA as a business major. She was tabbed All-WCC First Team last season after being named Second Team in 2013. She was named Preseason All-Conference this year, but battled an injury early in the season. She started every Gonzaga game the past three seasons coming into this year (58), and started 71 of the 72 games in her career. The Bulldogs struggled to a 2-12-5 record this season. ... Setter Lauren Joseph (Richland) had 404 assists — second most —for the 16-15 volleyball team in her final season with the Bulldogs.

COLLEGE OF IDAHO: Amy Pfaff (Hanford) finished fourth overall at the Cascade Collegiate Conference women’s cross country championships in Salem, Ore., on Nov. 7. Pfaff was named all-conference. At the NAIA Nationals meet, Pfaff placed 26th overall. ... Andres Idoeta (Walla Walla CC) had 2 goals and 2 assists for the 7-8 men’s soccer team this season.

IDAHO: Mikayla Ferenz (Walla Walla) had 10 points in 9 minutes played for the women’s basketball team in a 93-58 exhibition win over Lewis-Clark State College on Nov. 6. ... Torrin Crawford (Walla Walla) was second on the 14-16 volleyball this season with 72 blocks.

JUDSON: Grace Smith (Richland) was a second-team Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference all-star selection in volleyball. Smith ranked second in the conference in total blocks with 140.

LCSC: JaLisa Jose (Walla Walla CC) was third on the 21-12 volleyball team in kills with 226. ... Freshman Hailey Turner (Richland) grabbed 19 of the Warriors 68 rebounds to lead the team, while also scoring 10 points in her collegiate debut as the women’s basketball team beat Northwest Indian College 117-30 on Oct. 24. “Hailey’s had a great start to her career with a double-double,” said head coach Brian Orr. Turner also scored 11 points in a 93-58 exhibition loss to Idaho on Nov. 6. In a 110-26 rout of Walla Walla University on Nov. 21, Turner had 12 points and 12 rebounds. ... Freshman Kendall Watson (Hanford) scored 10 points and grabbed four rebounds as the men’s basketball team beat Northwest Indian College 139-58 on Oct. 25. ... Seth Deal (Waitsburg-Prescott) was named a 2015 Daktronics NAIA Cross Country Scholar Athlete last month. He ran at NAIA Nationals with his teammates, who finished fifth overall. Deal placed 104th overall.

MINNESOTA DULUTH: Defensive back Tyler Morris (Liberty Christian) was named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Academic football team on Nov. 25. To be eligible for the NSIC All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better, be a member of a varsity traveling team, have reached sophomore academic and athletic standing and completed one full year at his/her institution. Morris, a sophomore, is majoring in mechanical engineering. In eight games this season, Morris has had five tackles and recovered one fumble for the 8-3 team.
