Donais leads Kamiakin soccer over Hanford
Heather Donais had a goal and two assists to lead the Kamiakin Braves to a 5-1 victory Wednesday over the Hanford Falcons in a Mid-Columbia Conference 3A district soccer match in Richland.
The Braves move on to play the host Southridge Suns at 2 p.m. Saturday for the district title and regional seeding. Hanford’s season came to a close.
“They really showed up tonight,” Kamiakin coach Chris Erikson said of her team. “They were ready to go. They got on the field, and they were flying. Hanford is a good team; we were coming in as the lower seed.”
The Falcons split the season series with the Braves, but the only offense Hanford managed Wednesday night was Hannah Thompson’s goal in the 42nd minute.
“Kamiakin, they’re just a really good team,” Hanford coach Kaylie Winston said. “If you come out flat, they’ll punish you. They came out and got two early goals, and from there, it was just full steam ahead.”
Donais assisted on Parker Lee’s goal in the first half, and on Rilee Castilla’s goal to open the second half. Donais scored at 54:35 of the second half to give the Braves a 4-1 lead.
“Heather is quite the player,” Erikson said. “She is our team leader in scoring, and she works so hard and is a good team leader. She really inspired them tonight.”
“I’m really proud of the way our girls played,” Winston said. “We talked early in the season about everyone buying into the team goal. Our girls did that. As a result, our team finished second in league and made a name for ourselves.”
In the 4A MCC district title game Saturday, Chiawana will play host to the winner of today’s Richland-Pasco match.
