The Sunday World News outlet in South Africa reported that Adams supposedly took his own life. However, that has not been confirmed by any member of the family or by local authorities.

His death at the young age of 25 - just two-and-a-half weeks removed from appearing in a World Cup game - has many fans deeply saddened and others demanding answers.

"What exactly happened to Jayden Adams?? He was with Bafana Bafana at world cup with no sign of sickness now is no more."

"Death took him just like that? You shall be remembered for good always, Jayden Adams," wrote another.

"Could it possibly have been due to the extreme heat plus the energy that one must put into the game?" a third mused.

It's far too early to speculate over what might have caused Adams' death, let alone whether it was natural causes or not.

Right now is the time to mourn Adams for his accomplishments.

Adams went pro in 2020 as a teenager at Stellenbosch in South Africa, where he quickly became a starter and went on to appear in 139 games across all competitions and scored seven goals over six seasons.

He moved to Mamelodi Sundowns in 2024, appearing in 65 games and scoring another six goals, culminating in leading the team to the CAF Champions League title just two months ago.

At the international level, Adams earned his first cap for Bafana Bafana in 2022 and made 13 total appearances for his home country, scoring two big goals in FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Lesotho and Benin.

South Africa went on to finish second in Group A, securing their first-ever trip to the World Cup knockout stage, where they were eliminated by Canada.

Our hearts go out to Adams' family and loved ones.
