Mets Injury Update: When Will Marcus Semien Return?
Marcus Semien is nearing a minor-league rehab assignment, but the All-Star break will push the start of his return stint back by about a week, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com.
The New York Mets second baseman has been on the injured list since June 25 with a Grade 3 left hip flexor strain. He took live batting practice against Clay Holmes during a simulated session on July 10 and moved through sprinting sequences without any setbacks, manager Andy Green confirmed.
The timing of the break means Semien's rehab assignment will not begin until around July 18 or later. Once it does, his return to the active roster is projected for roughly a week after that, putting his comeback in early August at the earliest.

Semien, 35, said the hip injury had been nagging him since early May and that compensating for an old foot issue made it worse. "It got to the point where sprinting 100 percent was not possible," he said. After working to strengthen the area, he described himself as feeling really good heading into the rehab phase.
He came to the Mets in November 2025 in a trade that sent outfielder Brandon Nimmo to the Texas Rangers. A three-time All-Star, Semien is batting .214 with nine home runs and 29 RBIs across 80 games in his first season with New York.
In his absence, the Mets have used Jorge Polanco and Brett Baty to cover second base. Ronny Mauricio is also in the mix after completing a rehab assignment at Triple-A Syracuse.
The Mets are 40-55 and fifth in the National League East. The club has struggled offensively for much of the first half and will need Semien to be healthy and productive once the second half begins.
A clean rehab stint would allow him to return sometime in the first week of August, giving New York a veteran presence in the middle of the infield for the final two months of the season.
