Warriors Legend Speaks Out on a LeBron James-Steph Curry Reunion
We waited months to see which team would win the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes. Then the Miami Heat outbid the Boston Celtics to get the two-time league MVP.
After that, a series of blockbusters took place. LaMelo Ball got traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves, Ja Morant ended up with the Portland Trail Blazers, Jaylen Brown got dealt to the Philadelphia 76ers, and Kawhi Leonard’s back with the Toronto Raptors.
Now it feels like the final domino to fall could be LeBron James.
James informed the Los Angeles Lakers on June 30 that he’ll be returning for the 2026-27 season, it just won’t be for them. With his contract up, he’s now an unrestricted free agent and free to sign with any team in the NBA. His agent, Rich Paul, has reportedly already had talks with most of them, and James is open to taking a veteran minimum if it’s with a contender.
For weeks, the top three destinations have been the Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors, with the 76ers a potential sleeper after the Brown trade.
Yet, of all those options, Golden State is arguably the most enticing option due to his history and relationship with Steph Curry, both on and off the court.
On Friday, speaking with ESPN after the NBA Players’ Association’s executive leadership transition news conference, Golden State legend Andre Iguodala, who won four championships with the franchise and Finals MVP in 2015, addressed the potential of James and Curry playing together on the Warriors.
“Considering where they’re at in their careers, what they did in Paris,” a reference to their 2024 Olympic gold medal run. “In my opinion, LeBron James, he might be the smartest basketball player I’ve ever seen,” Iguodala said.
“For him to play with somebody like Steph Curry … To see that, even to fathom it, that’s what drives interest and drives the love of the game, of basketball, is the greatness of our players. So, I’m going to be watching. Every game.”
Iguodala also emphasized what it would say about Curry if he’s able to attract James to team up with him in the Bay Area, referencing a recent back-and-forth he had with a friend about the potential pairing.
“He’s like, ‘Steph Curry, if he’s going to get another one of the greatest players of their generation to play on his team, what does it say about him?'” Iguodala said.

Curry and James famously played together for Team USA, leading the national team to a gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics, alongside other NBA stars like Kevin Durant, Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker, and Joel Embiid.
Curry led the team in scoring, averaging 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in just 23.3 minutes across six games, shooting 47.8% from deep. James, meanwhile, led the team in both assists (8.5) and rebounds (6.8), and was second in points (14.2).
James won the FIBA Men’s Olympic MVP, and both were named to the FIBA Men’s Olympic All-Star Five, alongside France’s Victor Wembanyama, Serbia’s Nikola Jokic, and Germany’s Dennis Schroder.
That’s why the idea of James and Curry teaming up again in Golden State is so compelling. They’ve also faced off against each other several times in the playoffs, including four straight NBA Finals when James was with the Cavaliers.
One last ride as teammates would be iconic.
