Why Is Stefon Diggs Not Signed Yet? Top Landing Spots as Training Camp Nears
Stefon Diggs may be 32, the age at which most wide receivers start to show decline, but he just produced another 1,000-yard season, the seventh of his career, as the lead receiver for the New England Patriots, a team that just went to the Super Bowl.
So, then why is he still a free agent?
Diggs’ market got delayed for a while due to an offseason criminal trial and allegedly because his salary demands didn’t align with inquiring teams. After the Patriots released him this offseason, Diggs hit the open market, where his current market value on Spotrac is around $13.8 million annually.
That may be more than most teams are willing to pay for an aging receiver, let alone one with a polarizing reputation and who’s dealt with off-the-field issues the last couple of years.
But with NFL training camps just weeks away, there’s a chance contenders could start to show interest in the four-time Pro Bowler.
Here are three potential landing spots to keep an eye on for Diggs in the coming weeks.

Las Vegas Raiders
Diggs just proved he can help speed the development of a young quarterback, being the lead option for Drake Maye, who just enjoyed a breakout year in New England, finishing as the runner-up for league MVP. Why not give Fernando Mendoza a legitimate No. 1 WR too?
The Raiders still have Tre Tucker and added Jalen Nailor in the offseason, but both are better served as second or third options on an offense, not the go-to guy. Now, that’s probably still Brock Bowers, but adding a veteran receiver to that room, and one who can handle 100+ targets a season, might not be a bad route to go.
Washington Commanders
Diggs grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland, under an hour’s drive to Washington, D.C. A former Terrapin, this would be the ultimate homecoming for Diggs in what could be his final act, and the Commanders seem to be in the market for a wide receiver. They’ve been linked to Brandon Aiyuk, Tyreek Hill, and DeAndre Hopkins in recent weeks, along with Diggs.
Jayden Daniels needs another trusted pass catcher to pair with Terry McLaurin, and Diggs’ reliable hands and route-running make him the perfect complement. They are also much closer to competing for a Super Bowl, something Diggs still doesn’t have, than Vegas.
Cincinnati Bengals
Speaking of contenders. Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has already said this is the best team he’s played with in Cincinnati, and the organization had a busy offseason trying to build a contender around him. The Bengals haven’t made the playoffs in three years, and if things don’t turn around soon, Burrow’s patience may wear thin. In other words, this feels like a potential make-or-break season for the franchise.
Yet, one area they’re still lacking in depth is wide receiver. They’ve got Pro Bowlers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, but Andrei Iosivas is the WR3. Diggs would be a clear upgrade, and this may be the best position for him to win a Super Bowl. Though I’m sure Bills fans would have something to say about it.
