"Four girls on the All-State team, it's super awesome," Hughes said. "They are all so deserving. Those four have put in the work starting at a very young age, but I'm even more impressed in the time that they all have spent before and after practices during the season.
"They are so eager to get better, but also give back to the game. It's been so fun to be a part of and to watch their hard work pay off."
Their hard work did pay off as the Tigers finished the season with a 19-9 overall record. They claimed the league title and beat Monroe/Alsea and Country Christian/North Clackamas Christian in the state tournament in dramatic fashion to advance to the semifinals following three straight losses in the quarterfinals.
"It was awesome," Hughes said. "We won two very close games that gave the girls the confidence that was needed, and it kept them hungry."
Although Clatskanie lost to Heppner/Ione in the semifinals and will have to replace four talented seniors, Hughes said the team has a strong incoming freshman class, and the incoming seniors are ready to lead the charge.

"We made it through to the semifinals, but were short of our goal," she said. "We are determined. We lost four amazing seniors that guided our ship for the past four years, but our junior (now senior) class is ready to take us to our end goal.
"We have an incoming freshman class that has been playing a lot of tournament ball, and I believe that our first practice next season, we will hit the ground running."
