Iraq FIFA Ranking: What Is Their Updated Position Before Facing France at the World Cup?

Placed in one of the toughest groups, Iraq endured a disappointing loss in their opening match of the FIFA 2026 World Cup when they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Norway.

Head coach Graham Arnold now faces the challenge of guiding his team against arguably the most lethal attack in the tournament as they prepare to take on former champions France in their second Group I fixture.

France are coming off a 3-1 win against Senegal after goals from Kylian Mbappe and Bradley Barcola helped them sink African powerhouse Senegal.

The 2018 world champions are among the favorites to win the tournament, and Didier Deschamps' squad will be eager to make a statement with a convincing victory over a side that many consider to be minnows.

Norway will face Senegal later in the other Group I fixture, a match that could determine who finishes top of the group.

What is Iraq's FIFA Ranking?

The Lions of Mesopotamia fell three spots in the rankings after their loss to Norway in the opening fixture, with the risk of another drop if they lose to France.

Currently, they are ranked 63rd in the world and will need to put on solid performances and avoid dropping points if they are to maintain this position.

Their best FIFA ranking came in 2002, when they climbed to 39th, but they saw a steep fall in the following years, ending up in 139th rank before staging a recovery.

The Asian nation has been consistent and have gradually climbed up the ladder since 2016 with many positive results.
