Phillies' Bryce Harper Records First Career Cycle
Bryce Harper has accomplished a lot in his MLB career, but he accomplished something for the very first time on Friday.
With the Philadelphia Phillies hosting the New York Mets on national television, Harper entered the history books by hitting for the cycle. The 33-year-old slugger needed just five innings to complete the cycle, finishing it with a two-run triple.
Harper is the second player to hit for the cycle this season; remarkably, this is the second cycle in the span of a week after Pete Crow-Armstrong of the Chicago Cubs recorded a reverse cycle on Monday.

The first basemanstarted his night with a bang, taking Mets starter Freddy Peralta deep to right field in the bottom of the first inning. The solo home run would be a sign of things to come not just from Harper, but from the Phillies lineup.
After scoring two runs in the second, the Phillies erupted for eight runs in the bottom of the third; Kyle Schwarber notably hit two home runs in the inning with a leadoff solo shot and a three-run homer to cap the rally. But Harper was also right in the middle of the action, as he also tallied a double and single in the inning to put himself a triple away from history. The second hit came against relief pitcher Cionel Perez, who replaced Peralta amid the Phillies' onslaught.
Finally, the Phillies extended the bottom of the fifth with two-out singles by Trea Turner and Schwarber to bring up Harper. The Mets sent in long reliever Tobias Myers to prevent another big inning, but Harper instead responded with a line drive that split the gap in left-center field. The two runners scored easily, while Harper cruised into third base as the throw from cutoff man Zack Short went to home plate.

Harper's historic night produced the 11th cycle in Phillies history and their first since Weston Wilson's cycle on August 15, 2024. He is additionally only the third Phillie to accomplish the feat in Citizens Bank Park since it opened in 2004; Wilson and David Bell (June 28, 2004) are the others.
