White going through growing pains at Triple-A in Marlins organization

Of the three former W.F. West Bearcats currently playing professional baseball, Tyson Guerrero and Dakota Hawkins were the first two to reach Triple-A.

Brandon White ended up as the last one. He's still a step away from The Show.

The right-hander in the Miami Marlins organization earned the promotion back on May 19 from Double-A Pensacola and has hit a rough patch over his last three starts for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

He's gone 0-3 and allowed 19 earned runs, six homers and has struck out only 12 batters. It's a far cry from his first start back on May 21, where White dazzled with five innings of one-run ball and eight strikeouts.

While in Pensacola, White went 2-1 with an even 3.00 ERA and a stellar line of 39 strikeouts to only five walks. The Jumbo Shrimp currently have two of their top-five prospects, according to MLB Pipeline, in Thomas White (no relation to Brandon) and Karson Milbrandt in their rotation alongside Brandon White.

Hawkins, who got to Triple-A last season and has once again bounced around between High-A Brooklyn and Triple-A Syracuse this summer in the New York Mets organization, is currently in Brooklyn and has gotten the start in his last three appearances.

He hasn't earned a decision to this point, but has thrown 10 innings with 11 strikeouts, zero walks and just two earned runs. For the month of June, Hawkins' ERA sits at 1.64 after a May where his ERA was just over three.

Two years ago was when Hawkins was used primarily as a starter, but moved to the bullpen in 2025. He's been primarily a reliever once again in 2026, outside of his last three times on the mound.

Guerrero is coming off elbow surgery that wiped out his 2025 campaign after being named the opening day starter for the Kansas City Royals' Triple-A affiliate, the Omaha Storm Chasers.

He went 1-2 in three starts, his final one on April 10 of last season, lasting only 1.2 innings.

The southpaw is on a rehab assignment with the ACL Royals, Kansas City's rookie ball affiliate. He's had two appearances, one start, with totals of 1.2 innings, one hit allowed, one walk, no runs allowed and three strikeouts.

The two Awesome Chevrolet teams based out of Chehalis have started the summer off on a strong note with the 18U team at 8-1 and the 16U program at 5-1-1.

For the 18U squad, most of the varsity names that spurred the W.F. West High School team to a state tournament appearance, are still lacing up the cleats. Wyatt Hoffman, Emmett Goodman, Gage Wiens, Hayden Rooney and Reece Marquez are all contributing to the Trailblazers this summer.

Hoffman currently leads the lineup in batting average at .545 and OPS at 1.388 while having 12 hits and six runs batted in. Wiens has allowed just one earned run with nine strikeouts in two starts on the bump.

For the Awesome Chevy A team, it is coming off a doubleheader sweep of Multi-Sports 360 14U by scores of 10-0 and 13-3 on Wednesday. Logan Rooney drove in three runs in Game 1 as Awesome Chevy plated seven runs in the bottom of the first.

In Game 2, a six-run bottom of the third turned a 2-1 deficit into a multi-run lead for Awesome Chevy. Eric Cruz drove in three runs himself and on the mound, John Jussila struck out five in two innings of work.

Last week, both Awesome Chevy teams competed in the Top Tier Battle of the Bats tournament in Puyallup. Awesome Chevy A made the semifinals of the 16U silver division, but lost to Premier Baseball Club Purple 15/16U by a 9-7 verdict.

The Trailblazers reached the title game in the 18U silver division then dropped a 9-3 decision to Merchants Elite 18U.

The Tenino Trappers AA team are 1-5 this summer, picking up its first victory on June 11 versus Elma 7-6. A three-run walk-off homer by Easton Walker with two outs gave the Trappers the comeback victory.

Despite a 17-11 loss on Tuesday, the 11 runs is a new season-best for Tenino. Easton Miller, a sophomore-to-be that was a first team all-league player in the spring, had four RBIs in the contest and Kellan Johnson notched three hits.
