In Focus: Napavine state championship victory tour continues

The Napavine High School baseball team's celebration isn't over quite yet.

After beating Tri-Cities Prep 10-5 on May 31 to claim the first Class 2B state championship in program history, the Tigers have been showered with awards and honors.

They were named as the Team of the Year at The Chronicle's Athletes of the Year banquet on June 9 and this week, they were recognized within their own county and in front of thousands.

At Tuesday's Lewis County Commissioners meeting, Napavine was recognized for their state title in Chehalis. It is tradition for state team and invidividual champions to be honored at the commissoners meetings.

"The Lewis County Board of County Commissioners honored the Napavine Tigers baseball team at today's regular meeting, recognizing the team's historic 2026 state championship - the first baseball state title in Napavine school history," the board wrote on their Facebook page.

Then on Wednesday, prior to the Seattle Mariners game versus the Baltimore Orioles, Napavine was honored as part of the WIAA Spring State Championships Night.

It marks the third straight time a Lewis County school took part in the event; Adna's softball team has been recognized at T-Mobile Park after winning state in 2024 and 2025.

Other baseball state champions that were recognized were Sumner (4A), Kentlake (3A), Bainbridge (2A), King's (1A) and Dayton (1B).

The fastpitch softball state champions which were honored were Skyline (4A), Mt. Spokane (3A), Mark Morris (2A), Montesano (1A), Freeman (2B) and Liberty Christian (1B).

The slowpitch softball state title winners from the fall season were also honored. They were Moses Lake (4A) and Mt. Spokane (2A/3A).
