Blue Jays Demote Player After Daulton Varsho News
Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho was on the 10-day injured list from June 10 to June 20 with left wrist inflammation. He had previously been healthy for the whole year.
Heading into a Saturday matchup versus the Chicago Cubs, the Blue Jays are 37-39. They are 10 games behind the first-place New York Yankees in the American League East.
Varsho's injury was just one of the latest injuries to happen to the club this year. Important contributors like Alejandro Kirk, Addison Barger and Dylan Cease have all spent time on the shelf.
In 64 games, the 29-year-old Varsho slashed .256/.331/.408 with a .739 OPS. He has five home runs and 17 RBIs.
The center fielder had yet to really get it going before the wrist injury, but it might be that some time off is just what he needed to get back on track.
During his absence, Toronto relied on Myles Straw and Nathan Lukes to patrol center field. Oftentimes one would come in as a defensive replacement later in games.
The Blue Jays original move for Varsho's IL placement was to call up utility Davis Schneider. He mainly played in left field during Varsho's absence.
Schneider will be sticking around for now even with Varsho being reinstated. On Saturday, the club announced that infielder Charles McAdoo will be the one sent down to the minors.

The team also opted to send reliever Brendon Little down to Triple-A. After a call-up on Friday, the lefty had a poor outing against the Cubs.
McAdoo, Toronto's No. 24 prospect, made his MLB debut on May 29. He saw limited action while he was in the bigs. Over eight games, the 24-year-old slashed .160/.160/.280 with a .440 OPS. He managed one home run and three RBIs.
While the infielder did struggle at the plate, the club is now down to four primary infielders on the roster. While Ernie Clement battles with a hip problem, Schneider will get some reps in the infield. He is batting seventh and playing second base on Saturday, while Andrés Giménez shifts to shortstop and bats eighth.
The Blue Jays will be sending Patrick Corbin to the mound on Saturday against the Cubs at 2:20 p.m. EDT. They hope to get back on track after a 16-2 loss in the series opener.
