World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka Made Unfortunate History With Loss To Jessica Pegula

The 2026 season has quickly spiraled out of control for world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Since winning the Sunshine Double at Indian Wells and Miami, Sabalenka has been unable to sustain any success on the court. She was upset by Hailey Baptiste in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open, lost a three-set thriller against Sorana Cirstea in the Italian Open, and had an epic collapse against Diana Shnaider at Roland Garros.

Despite being up a set and a double break, Sabalenka lost to Shnaider 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 in the French Open quarterfinals.

Sabalenka was so devastated by her third-set meltdown that she talked about potentially walking away from tennis.

"No thoughts, no emotions," Sabalenka said. "Just want to quit tennis right now."

The slump isn't over yet for Aryna.

Unfortunately for Sabalenka, she hasn't found much success on the grass court this month.

After needing a wild comeback to defeat Nikola Bartunkova in the quarterfinals in Berlin, she was taken down by Jessica Pegula this Saturday in three sets, 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-0.

With this loss officially in the books, Sabalenka has become the first world No. 1 to lose 6-0 in the deciding set of consecutive WTA-level events.

Sabalenka will have to shake off her recent slump if she wants to win her first title at Wimbledon. For what it's worth though, she hasn't made it past the semifinals at the All England Club.
