Timberwolves Trade Rumors Reveal ‘Strong Interest' in Celtics Star: Report
The NBA Draft arrives next week, and many teams are looking to make trades to upgrade their rosters after failing to meet expectations in the regular season and postseason.
The Minnesota Timberwolves definitely fall into that category, as they lost to a new powerhouse contender, the San Antonio Spurs, in the Western Conference Semifinals.
That immediately raised questions about how they might improve, and it appears adding a better guard and small forward to the starting lineup could be the move.
A new report emerged on Friday via The Athletic’s Sam Amick, suggesting the Timberwolves have “strong interest” in trading for Celtics star Derrick White, the highly talented member of Boston’s trio that captured a championship several seasons ago.

White is considered an all-around talent, able to do just about everything well at times, including making plays, knocking down 3-pointers, and playing defense. He was among the selections for this year’s NBA All-Defensive First Team for the first time in his career.
He also has veteran experience, with multiple playoff appearances, which the younger Timberwolves players in their rotation don’t have as much. White averaged 16.5 points, 5.4 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per game last season with a 39.4% field goal percentage.
He would be a huge addition in Minnesota alongside Edwards, still considered one of the league’s top 10 players. Edwards and the Timberwolves reached the Western Conference Finals in two consecutive years, but couldn’t defeat the Luka Doncic-led Dallas Mavericks or last year’s champions, the Oklahoma City Thunder.
And this year, they ran into a serious new threat in the West, in a young, talented Spurs team that won’t need to do a whole lot beyond offseason training, gaining experience, and playing more as a team.
Clearly, the Timberwolves will need to make a significant change to contend, especially after seeing the player they traded, Karl-Anthony Towns, win a championship this year with the Knicks. Meanwhile, the player they acquired, Julius Randle, has been unable to help Edwards get to the NBA Finals.
