Is Guillermo Ochoa Playing Tonight for Mexico vs. South Korea?
Mexico will look to get another win at the 2026 World Cup when they host South Korea at the Guadalajara Stadium.
In the previous match against South Africa, Mexico fielded a lineup with experience and with players who have recently stepped up for the national team.
A player who was not in the lineup and did not play is Guillermo Ochoa, who is at his 6th World Cup for Mexico. Ochoa did not get minutes as Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre picked Raul Rangel over him.
Ochoa was with the Mexican national team for the national anthem and was available to play, but he never came on the pitch and remained on the bench.
Aguirre insists that Ochoa has possibilities to play at this World Cup despite playing Rangel for most of the matches ahead of the tournament. With that said, Rangel is expected to start as the Mexican goalkeeper tonight against South Korea.
Is Guillermo Ochoa Injured?
Guillermo Ochoa is not injured and will be benched as Javier Aguirre will count on Raul Rangel as the first-choice goalkeeper.
Ochoa could potentially play at this World Cup after revealing that he will retire from professional football. Ochoa revealed his intentions to retire in an interview with FIFA.
Ochoa said, "Now my time with the national team is coming to an end, I don't see much more meaning in football. I don't see the point in keeping on playing."
While Ochoa may not play against South Korea unless there is an injury to Rangel, the goalkeeper will have another chance where he can make an appearance. Mexico plays Czechia next week on June 24.
