Mariners' Cal Raleigh, J.P. Crawford return; Jhonny Pereda sent to Tacoma
The Mariners made the expected and previously reported roster moves of reinstating catcher Cal Raleigh (oblique) and shortstop J.P. Crawford (hand contusion) on Tuesday afternoon.
With Patrick Wisdom already optioned to Triple-A Tacoma on Monday to clear a roster spot, the Mariners needed to clear one more spot on their active roster. They optioned catcher Jhonny Pereda back to Tacoma as the corresponding move.
There was some debate as to whether the Mariners might keep three catchers on the 26-man roster when Raleigh returned. But with Randy Arozarena and Colt Emerson both dealing with minor back issues on the previous road trip, the Mariners didn't have the roster flexibility to carry three catchers.
Pereda, 30, appeared in 19 games for the Mariners, batting .270 (17 for 63) with two home runs, four RBI and four walks with a .689 OPS.
