NFL Teams Not Worried About Potential Brendan Sorsby Suspension, Reveals Insider

Brendan Sorsby will be off to the NFL after announcing his decision to apply for the NFL supplemental draft.

Sorsby was set to be the starting quarterback for the Texas Tech Red Raiders, but after he admitted to gambling on college football games, his status was in doubt. The NCAA ended up ruling him ineligible, before a Lubbock judge overruled that decision.

However, as it looked like Sorsby was set to return to Texas Tech, the school got plenty of backlash, so he opted to apply for the NFL supplemental draft. Although Sorsby had first-round talent, when he will be picked in the supplemental draft is uncertain, and which team will take a chance on him is another question.

Yet, NFL insider and analyst Daniel Jeremiah believes a young general manager will likely take a chance on him, as they also aren't worried about a suspension.

More NFL:

"If you look at the teams that are going to be interested, I think the older general managers, I could see them being like, not in a million years, not touching him, not messing with this, it's a no-go," Jeremiah said on The Pat McAfee Show on June 16. "Where maybe some of the younger ones, with young kids, where the world is right now, could say 'I could see how he got caught up in this and hopefully he can correct it.' I think there will be different opinions in different rooms. ...

"You're not gonna be worried about a suspension because he's gonna get to your team right before training camp. It's a redshirt year either way, whether the NFL takes action, suspends him two games, six games, or an entire season, I don't think that will have any impact on where a team would select him."

If NFL teams aren't worried about a potential suspension to Sorsby, a team could very well use a second-round pick in the supplemental draft to select the quarterback.

But, there are still plenty of question marks on the intriguing quarterback prospect after he revealed his gambling problem.

If the NFL approves Sorsby's application to the supplemental draft, several teams should be interested in him.

Sorsby likely would've been a first-round selection, but when he will be picked in the supplemental draft is uncertain. Yet, there are a couple of teams who make sense to take a flier on him.

The most obvious landing spot for Sorsby is the Cleveland Browns, who don't have a clear long-term answer at quarterback. Deshaun Watson is in the final year of his deal, while Shedeur Sanders may not be a long-term answer.

Next, a pair of AFC East teams could be interested in the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins. Neither has a franchise quarterback, and although the Dolphins signed Malik Willis and the Jets traded for Geno Smith, both can let Sorsby sit for a year and learn while they evaluate their own quarterback rooms.

The final team that could take a flier on Sorsby is the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pittsburgh brought back Aaron Rodgers, and although the team is excited about Will Howard and Drew Allar, whether either is a future starter in the NFL is uncertain.

So, it does appear there will be a couple of teams interested in Sorsby.
