NBC Alters Plans For Weekday Coverage Of 2026 U.S. Open

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club will be hosting the U.S. Open in less than 48 hours and NBC will have the event coverage. But they're making a change to the event from the last few years - one that fans are likely going to appreciate.

According to Josh Carpenter of the Sports Business Journal via Awful Announcing, NBC will broadcast the entirety of Friday's second round action rather than moving the final hour to their Peacock streaming service. NBC's live coverage of the second round will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. ET.

That said, fans hoping to watch the entire opening round of the tournament on NBC will still be somewhat out of luck. USA Network will cover the round up until 5 p.m., at which point Peacock will take over for the final three hours of coverage.

The 2026 U.S. Open

Scottie Scheffler is the big favorite to win the U.S. Open as he continues his pursuit of a Grand Slam. Per CBS Sports, FanDuel Sportsbook gives him 11/2 odds of hoisting the trophy in New York.

Following behind him as the only golfers with better than 20-1 odds are Rory McIlroy (12-1) and Jon Rahm (13-1). Cameron Young, Tommy Fleetwood, Matt Fitzpatrick, Ludvig Aberg, Xander Schauufele and Bryson DeChambeau are also considered conteners.

Aaron Rai, who shocked the world by winning the PGA Championship in May, is not expected to make it back-to-back major wins and is listed with 80-1 odds.

Last year's U.S. Open saw J.J. Spaun claim the title for just his second-ever PGA Tour win at the age of 34.

Could we perhaps see another first-time major winner in New York this weekend?

Grouping and tee times have not yet been announced.
