High School Notebook: King's Way Christian hires Hayden Tilton as new boys basketball coach
Hayden Tilton has been hired as the new varsity boys basketball coach at King's Way Christian, the school announced.
Tilton replaces Ty Johnson, who led the program for three seasons and helped the Knights to the state playoffs last season.
Tilton, who played basketball at Mark Morris and Lower Columbia College, was the head coach at Castle Rock from 2018-2022, leading the program to a district championship in 2022. He spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Mark Morris before taking over the program at Seton Catholic last season.
"Coaching is a lifelong passion of mine that began under the mentorship of my coaches," Tilton said. "The opportunity to be at King's Way allows me to combine my competitive spirit with the privilege of working with student-athletes in a Christ-centered environment. King's Way brings together two of my greatest passions - Jesus and basketball."
SORENSON STEPS DOWN AS KELSO SOFTBALL COACH - Dean Sorenson has announced his retirement as the softball coach at Kelso after a long and successful tenure.
Sorenson spent 27 seasons at Kelso High School, 12 as an assistant coach, one as coach head coach with Mike McMahon and the last 14 seasons as head coach.
Sorenson posted a 219-137 (.615 winning percentage) and was twice named Greater St. Helens League coach of the year (2015, 2025).
In 2011, Sorenson and McMahon were named Washington Softball Coaches Association Coaches of the Year. Sorenson also served on the staff of teams that won back-to-back state championships in 2009 and 2010.
This past season, Sorenson led Kelso to the 3A district championship and to the 3A state tournament.
KRISTI BURTON NAMES ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT SETON CATHOLIC - Kristi Burton has been hired as the athletic director at Seton Catholic.
Burton spent 10 years as an athletic secretary at King's Way Christian before joining the staff at Seton Catholic in 2020, where she has served the past few years as assistant athletic director.
Burton takes over as AD from Steve Sherren, an assistant principal at the school who took over the role after longtime AD Phil Kent decided to step back and move into the role of assistant AD last year.
