RAL's Cam Newsome commits to LCC

R.A. Long boys basketball standout Cam Newsome will be joining the Lower Columbia College men's basketball team next season.

Newsome's commitment to the Red Devils comes shortly after R.A. Long teammate Landon Irwin signed with the club.

R.A. Long's Cam Newsome shoots a 3-pointer during the 2A state boys basketball opening round game against Grandview on Saturday, Feb. 28 at Kelso High School. Newsome has committed to Lower Columbia College.

Newsome earned first-team all-league honors for the 2A Greater St. Helens League this year. He helped the Jacks claim their second-straight league and district titles and place second at state.

Newsome had some big games this season, including scoring 18 points and hitting four 3-pointers in the state title game, knocking down seven critical free throws in the state quarterfinals, and scoring 17 points in the district title game.

He also nearly had a triple double against Centralia, finishing with 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven steals, while also swiping seven takeaways versus Washougal.

LCC advanced all the way to the NWAC championship game this past season.
