George Pickens-Cowboys Standoff Coming to a Resolution: Report
After weeks of speculating whether or not George Pickens will attend Dallas Cowboys minicamp after skipping team OTAs, fans finally have their answer.
Clarence Hill of DLLS reported on Monday that Pickens's absence will come to an end when the team reports to mandatory minicamp on Tuesday.
"George Pickens plans to be at Dallas Cowboys minicamp, per source," Hill posted on X.
If Pickens skipped the minicamp, he would've ran up more than $100,000 in fines.
The news means Cowboys fans can breathe a sigh of relief. Some were worried that Pickens' absence during OTAs meant a holdout was coming after the start wideout signed Dallas' one-year, $27.3 million franchise tender after the draft.
There had been speculation that Pickens signed the franchise tender in hopes of facilitating a trade, but the Cowboys have been adamant they have no plans to trade Pickens, who they want to replicate his breakout 2025 season (93 catches, 1,429 yards, nine touchdowns) before handing him the monster contract extension he's seeking (reportedly in the $30 million to $35 million-per-year range).
Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer told reporters during OTAs that he wasn't worried that Pickens wasn't in the building, maintaining that once they hit the mandatory part of the offseason he expected the star wideout to show up.
"As you guys know, [OTAs are] voluntary," Schottenheimer said of Pickens’ absence. "I [spoke] with GP yesterday. He’s got a football camp this weekend that he’s doing. Communication has been good.
"… I expect he’ll be here [for minicamp], and I think he’s in a good spot. I know he’s handling his business, and I know he misses his teammates. We miss him, too. You guys know how we feel about him - we love him, and this is just part of the business."
With Pickens set to report to minicamp, the team's biggest offseason concern appears to be fading into the background.
With a 1-2 punch of Pickens and CeeDee Lamb (75 catches, 1,077 yards, three touchdowns), plus quarterback Dak Prescott (4,552 yards passing, 30 touchdowns, 10 interceptions), running back Javonte Williams (1,201 yards rushing, 11 TDs), and tight end Jake Ferguson (82 catches, 600 yards, eight TDs), the Cowboys could have one of the scariest offenses in the NFL in 2026.
