UFC Freedom 250 Faces ‘Chaotic' Weather Concerns at White House Event
Dana White‘s UFC Freedom 250 in Washington, D.C. had a stacked fight card, but brought reports of potentially “chaotic” weather ahead of the event’s start on Sunday.
The UFC extravaganza, which has a custom set on the White House‘s South Lawn, features an anticipated UFC Lightweight Championship unification battle between Ilia Topuria and Justin Gaethje as the main event.
Also, Sean O’Malley goes up against Aiemann Zahabi, and Alex Pereira fights Ciryl Gane for the interim UFC Heavyweight Championship, among other scheduled fights.
However, the Weather Channel reported on Sunday morning that there was a “60% chance of thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and wind gusts up to 64 miles per hour,” which potentially could delay fights.

According to their weather report, there is also a “triple-digit heat index alongside massive swarms of mosquitoes and gnats” threatening the event.
UFC’s custom-built setup featured a 92-foot overhang to keep the outdoor octagon dry, but it wouldn’t be ideal to have fights going on amid lightning storms.
The Weather Channel indicated that if any lightning struck within eight miles of the custom-built outdoor venue, it would cause a “30-minute freeze” for the event.
The report arrived hours after UFC president and CEO Dana White delivered a statement about the potential weather threats looming over his big event.
“I don't care if it rains snows, whatever happens, we have a fight. I'm sick of hearing about the weather. We are fighting on Sunday on the White House lawn," White said at a press conference.
It shows how massive and popular White and other organizers believe this event will be, especially with its location and under the different circumstances. UFC typically holds its events at indoor venues and usually on Saturday evenings in the United States.
This all could cause a major disruption for the UFC’s fight card in an event being held on Flag Day. However, it seems the fights will go on at some point, although a lengthy delay would likely frustrate fans watching from home.
The UFC Freedom 250 main card is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET, with Paramount+ live-streaming the event.
