Kade Anderson, Ryan Sloan shine in Double-A doubleheader | Mariners extra

Welcome to The Seattle Times' Sunday inside baseball page, where we review the week that was on the diamond, highlight key trends with the Mariners and present our weekly MLB Power Rankings.

Stat of the Week

148

Since he was recalled from Triple-A Tacoma on June 9, 2025, Dominic Canzone ranks 11th in the majors with 148 wRC+ (with 100 representing league average). In 439 appearances over the past year, Canzone has a .295/..355/.518 slash line (.873 OPS) with 21 homers and 23 doubles. He's been especially hot the past few weeks, hitting .380 with six homers and four doubles and the second-best OPS (1.264) in MLB since May 24.

Prospect Watch

More of the same from the Mariners' top two pitching prospects, Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan. That is, more awesomeness. And this time, it happened on the same day.

Anderson scattered three hits over 6.2 scoreless innings in Game 1 of a doubleheader Saturday for Double-A Arkansas. He struck out six with no walks on 80 pitches (55 strikes) in the Travelers' 1-0 victory, and lowered his ERA to 1.13 in 11 professional starts, with an 82-to-7 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 55.2 innings. (Bonkers, right?)

Sloan followed in Game 2 of the doubleheader with six strong innings of his own, allowing only one unearned run on three hits, with one walk and seven strikeouts on 78 pitches (52 strikes).

Who's Hot

Cole Young has hit safely in 15 of his last 16 games, hitting .323 with 20 hits in 62 at-bats, two homers and a .757 OPS.

Who's Not

Bryan Woo has allowed 28 earned runs over 25 innings in his last six road starts.

Ex-Mariner of the Week

Harry Ford, the Mariners' 2021 first-round draft pick, has posted a .204/.333/.268 slash line (.601 OPS) with one homer and seven doubles in 189 plate appearances for the Nationals' Triple-A affiliate. He has yet to make his debut for the Nationals. Last December, the Mariners traded Ford to Washington for left-handed reliever José A. Ferrer, who has emerged as one of the M's most valuable arms out of the bullpen.
