Mariners' Randy Arozarena out of Saturday's lineup with hamstring strain

WASHINGTON - For the first time this season, Randy Arozarena was not in the Mariners lineup.

The All-Star left fielder was not scheduled to play vs. the Nationals on Saturday after he exited Friday's game with what he described as a minor hamstring strain.

Arozarena successfully completed strength tests on his hamstring Friday night and said he expected to miss just a couple of days.

Arozarena had started the first 71 games of the season, joining Julio Rodriguez and Cole Young as the three Mariners to appear in every game.

In his final season before reaching free agency, the 31-year-old Arozarena has been one of the best outfielders in the American League, posting a .291/.377/.448 slash line (.826 OPS) with a 136 OPS+ (100 is average), seven homers, 18 doubles and 19 steals.

"Randy is feeling better today," M's manager Dan Wilson said Saturday afternoon. "Still day-to-day. Still going to monitor him closely. But I think positive signs are coming out of there today."

An emotional return for Robles

Victor Robles returned to Nationals Park for the first time as a visitor this weekend, and he brought a prized possession with him: his 2019 World Series ring.

"I carry it with me everywhere I go," the Mariners outfielder said Saturday afternoon.

Robles was the Nationals' 22-year-old rookie center fielder during their 2019 World Series win over the Astros, and fans here haven't forgotten his heroics that October.

Robles was greeted with a 90-second video tribute on the Jumbotron before Friday's series opener, followed by a standing ovation from the crowd.

"To look back and look up at all the beautiful memories, it was very emotional for me," Robles said, via team interpreter Freddy Llanos.

Robles debuted as a 20-year-old with the Nationals in 2017 and spent parts of eight seasons in Washington. Released June 1, 2024, he signed with Seattle three days later and emerged as one of the M's most productive players in the second half of that season, leading to a two-year extension through 2026.

He missed virtually all of last season after tearing up his shoulder making an all-out diving catch in April 2025 into the right-field netting in San Francisco.

He then strained his right pec muscle early this season, leading to a 40-game stint on the injured list.

He says he's now fully healthy.

"I'm ready to help the team with whatever they need," he said.

With Arozarena out, Luke Raley was in Saturday's lineup at left field and Robles started in right field.
