Spurs' Victor Wembanyama Makes Bold NBA Finals Prediction

Victor Wembanyama cannot go out like that.

The San Antonio Spurs jumped out to a 19-point lead over the New York Knicks in Game 4 of the 2026 NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. Toward the end of the first quarter, Knicks center Mitchell Robinson committed a flagrant foul against Wembanyama, who taunted Robinson with, “I’m in your head.”

The Spurs’ lead ballooned to 29 points, including a 27-point halftime advantage, but Wembanyama disappeared down the stretch. After his moment with Robinson, he went 4-for-18 from the field. Most notably, the Spurs clinging to a 104-103 lead, he missed two crucial free throws with under two minutes to go in the game. The Knicks subsequently pulled off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history to win 107-106 and take a 3-1 series lead.

Wemby, the 22-year-old emerging face of the NBA, simply cannot go out like that.

And he doesn’t believe he will.

“Everybody thinks - everybody knows we’re gonna do it,” Wembanyama said of the Spurs’ mentality about coming back from 3-1 down to win the Finals. “We need to isolate that one game and take it one game at a time. I think it’d be a mistake to waste our energy on multiple games. It’s one game at a time.”

When asked about the lingering heartbreak from the Spurs’ collapse in Game 4, Wembanyama said, “We’re very confident. I wouldn’t say it was so hard to shake off, but harder than any other game before. By far. For sure. But now, we’re over it. It’s the playoffs. There’s no time to regret things for too long.”

If the Spurs beat the Knicks at their own game and mount an improbable comeback, they will become just the second team in NBA history to overcome a 3-1 deficit and win the Finals - joining the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers shocking the Golden State Warriors in 2016.

The Spurs will host the Knicks for Game 5 at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Saturday night.
