Argentina Makes Major Decision During FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup is officially underway. Mexico opened the tournament on Thursday night with a 2-0 victory over South Africa at the iconic Estadio Azteca, becoming the first host nation to begin this expanded 48-team World Cup. The action continues Friday, with the United States set to face Paraguay as the group stage gathers momentum across North America.

For Lionel Messi and Argentina, however, the focus remains firmly on next week's opener against Algeria. The defending champions arrive in the United States carrying enormous expectations after lifting the trophy in Qatar four years ago, and all eyes will be on Messi as he prepares for a record sixth World Cup appearance. Argentina begins its title defense on June 16, hoping to become the first nation in more than six decades to successfully retain the World Cup crown.

As preparations continue, the national team made a major move off the pitch.

Kalshi announced on Friday that it has become an official sponsor of the Argentina national team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

"We are partnering with World Champions Argentina as their official sponsor for the 2026 World Cup. ¡VAMOS ARGENTINA CARAJO!" the company wrote in its announcement on X.

The agreement adds another major commercial partner to an Argentina team that has become one of the most marketable brands in international football following its World Cup triumph and Messi's continued global appeal.

Kalshi is a U.S.-based financial exchange and prediction-market company that allows users to trade on the outcomes of real-world events. The partnership is expected to include marketing campaigns, digital content initiatives and branding opportunities throughout the tournament.

The Argentine Football Association has aggressively expanded its commercial portfolio in recent years, signing sponsorship agreements with global brands across multiple industries as interest in the national team continues to surge. Among the federation's notable partners are sportswear giant Adidas and beverage company Coca-Cola.

Lionel Scaloni's side enters the competition among the favorites once again, led by Messi and a core group that has already delivered World Cup, Copa América and Finalissima titles.

Scaloni will be hoping his squad kicks off the tournament with a win.
