Knicks' OG Anunoby Earns Finals MVP Buzz After Historic Game 4 Comeback

The New York Knicks pulled off the biggest comeback in NBA Finals history on Wednesday night, coming back from a 27-point deficit at halftime to stun the San Antonio Spurs 107-106.

New York outscored San Antonio 58-30 in the second half, capping it off with a historic go-ahead tip-in from OG Anunoby to put the Knicks up by one with just 1.2 seconds left.

Then, Anunoby sealed it with a block on the other end, and the game was over.

The Knicks lead the series 3-1, heading back to San Antonio for Game 5 on Saturday night.

Now, the question has emerged: Has Anunoby done enough to win Finals MVP?

Rich Paul thinks so.

“He’s been the most reliable on the Knicks in this series on both ends of the floor,” Paul said on his “Game Over” podcast with Max Kellerman. “He’s shot it well from three, he's guarded, made the hustle plays, getting the 50/50 balls. When you look at his overall impact on the series and each game, it's been OG.”

Through four Finals games, Anunoby is averaging 23.8 points per game while shooting 58% from the field and 55.6% from three, on 6.8 attempts per game.

His true shooting percentage sits around 78.4%, the highest of any player scoring over 20 points per game in NBA Finals history.

Game 4 was his best yet, finishing with 33 points on 10 of 15 shooting, including an efficient 7 of 9 from deep, with a true shooting percentage of 93.5%.

Jalen Brunson will be his biggest competition for the award should the Knicks win the series.

He’s been the Knicks captain and unquestioned leader throughout the playoffs, and leads all scorers in the series at 29.5 points per game, including 36 in the Game 4 comeback.

But he hasn’t been nearly as efficient as Anunoby, shooting just 39.6% from the field and 34.5% from three.

Brunson also hasn’t been as impactful on the defensive end.

Anunoby is averaging 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game in the series, with a 114.0 defensive rating, which leads all starters on either team.

Brunson is averaging 2.0 steals per game but has a defensive rating of just 108.8.

The Knicks are one win away from their first NBA championship since 1973.

Anunoby could be one win away from cementing his legacy as arguably the best two-way wing in the league.
