Manu Ginobili Will Regret His Tweet During Game 4 Of NBA Finals
Like most Spurs fans, Spurs legend Manu Ginobili was overwhelmingly confident in his team heading into halftime of Game 4. No team in NBA Finals history had won a game after going down 27 points at halftime.
Ginobili's mistake and the one that might haunt him forever will be what he posted on X at the time.
"0-0!! #GoSpursGo!" Ginobili declared, implying that the Spurs had evened up the series with a win over the Knicks.
Little did he know at the time that his Spurs would suffer an all-time meltdown and enable the Knicks to pull off the greatest comeback in Finals history in a 107-106 win to lift the Knicks to 3-1 in the series.
Licking the Wounds
To his credit, Ginobili hasn't deleted the post and posted later that it was a "extremely tough loss." But he called on his longtime team to lick their wounds and "try again" in Games 5-7.
"I cannot believe what just happened! Unreal! Extremely tough loss. Now time to lick wounds and try again. No alternatives," Ginobili wrote on X.
Of course, just because Ginobili feels bad, it doesn't mean NBA fans won't make him feel a little worse:
"It ain't over ‘til it's over, Manu… You should know that better," one user mocked.
"3-1!! #GoHomeSpursGoHome," wrote another.
"You sure about that big dog?" a third asked.
"I love this jumping the gun, it is so delicious."
"Imagine blowing a 29 point lead. Biggest in NBA Finals history. To go down 3-1. Couldn't happen to a more deserving team and fanbase."
The Spurs are now down 3-1 in the series and teams that go down to that mark have only won the Finals once in NBA history (2016 Cleveland Cavaliers). Assuming the Spurs can rally and stave off elimination in San Antonio in Saturday, they'll have to go back to the Garden next week and do it again - and then once more in San Antonio.
