Seahawks ready for rings, nearly done with minicamp | Notebook

RENTON - The Seahawks have just a little bit more work to do before they can really get the party started.

The Seahawks will get their Super Bowl rings in a private ceremony Thursday night that concludes the team's offseason program.

But first, they held about a 75-minute walkthrough-style practice Wednesday without helmets, a workout coach Mike Macdonald calls ACT for emphasizing alignment, communication and technique.

Then the team broke into groups to make appearances at four area organizations as part of a community service initiative. Players and coaches were scheduled to visit Seattle Children's Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House, the Veteran's Affairs Hospital and the Family First Community Center in Renton, founded by former Seahawk Doug Baldwin Jr.

"It will be fun to get out and visit some folks and proud of our guys for volunteering for it, Macdonald said. "… We're looking for ways for guys to be together. We haven't really done one of these. I thought it was a great opportunity for us to get out there and go do our thing, serve our community. Guys are all about it. Really looking forward to it. It will be great."

Fitting in the events meant pushing back the longer practice the team initially had set for Wednesday to Thursday.

Once that practice ends in the early afternoon, then it will be off to the ring ceremony.

Macdonald said he has seen "a version" of the ring that the team will get commemorating the 29-13 win over New England in the Super Bowl in February but is glad he hasn't seen the finished product so it will be something of a surprise Thursday.

"I'm really excited," Macdonald said. "… I'm really confident our guys are going to be really proud of it and it's going to be really awesome."

After the ring ceremony players will be free until training camp in late July - the team announced Wednesday the first training camp workout open to the public at the VMAC in Renton will be held July 25.

Macdonald, whose session with the media Wednesday is scheduled to be his last until training camp, said the team's focus in the offseason has not been on the big picture of trying to accomplish the rare feat of repeating as Super Bowl champs - something done only nine times - but on the immediate task at hand.

"I think we're just trying to be us," he said. "I'm sure you feel the same thing, the energy, the spirit behind the team. Just feels like we're just trying to have a great second day of minicamp. Trying to be that simple. Let's stay in the present moment, try to nail it today and tomorrow, then put a great plan in place for the offseason, for the summer. Let's go from there. Keeping it simple."

Seahawks announce open training camp dates

The Seahawks on Wednesday announced that 10 training camp practices will be open to the public or season-ticket holders, beginning July 25.

That includes the team's annual Football Fest on Aug. 8 at Lumen Field.

Season ticket holders, Blue Pride members and season ticket notification list members will be invited to register during an exclusive presale window on Monday, June 15.

Registration for the public to attend the open dates begins June 16 at seahawks.com/training camp.

Dates of open practices are: July 25, 26, 28, 31, Aug. 1, 4, 5, 7, 8, 13.

All are set to begin at 1 p.m. except for Aug. 7 (9:45 a.m.) and the Football Fest on Aug. 8 which begins at 5:20 p.m.

Hart signing to push Jones?

The Seahawks announced Monday they signed veteran free agent offensive tackle Bobby Hart. The move came with Josh Jones - who was the team's third tackle last year behind starters Charles Cross and Abraham Lucas - yet to practice this offseason.

Hart, a 12-year vet who started eight games at tackle last year for the Los Angeles Chargers, worked at right tackle Tuesday and Wednesday with the No. 3 offense as Jones again watched from the sideline.

Jones dealt with knee and ankle injuries last season but played through them to start the final three regular season games at left tackle when Cross suffered a hamstring injury. Those games included the 38-37 win over the Rams at home and 13-3 win at San Francisco in the regular season finale that gave the Seahawks the NFC West title and No. 1 seed in the playoffs.

Jones signed a one-year deal to stay with the Seahawks that includes $3 million guaranteed.

Macdonald was vague when asked if those injuries are why Hart was signed now.

"Bobby is a good tackle and we need a third tackle and Josh hasn't practiced yet," Macdonald said. "So Josh needs to practice to compete with Bobby. Right now, Bobby is practicing."

Asked specifically about Jones' injuries, Macdonald said, "He's just not ready to practice yet, so he needs to become ready to practice and that's his responsibility.''

Horton could be ready for training camp

Macdonald said second-year receiver Tory Horton, who played only the first eight games of last season before suffering a shin injury that required surgery, continues to make progress and could be ready for the start of training camp.

"Still all positive with Tory,'' Macdonald said. "… We should be looking at early on in camp, if not the beginning of camp, where if he's staying on schedule and everything goes well we'll be praying that he can be out there. … I don't want to put a timetable on it. It could be anywhere from day one he's rocking and rolling or maybe it's a couple days. We'll see."

Notes

- Tight end Elijah Arroyo again did not practice, but he has done some conditioning work on the side. Tight end Eric Saubert also has been limited in minicamp not doing full-speed team work Tuesday but on the field for the walk-through Wednesday. Macdonald said each is "just working through some stuff, but it's positive for training camp so just taking care of them right now."

- Rookie defensive lineman Deven Eastern, a seventh-round pick out of Minnesota, also hasn't been on the field during practices open to the media the last two weeks. Macdonald didn't offer a specific issue saying the answer is the "same thing as the case with Saubert and Arroyo.
