Drake Maye Reacts To The Patriots Trading For A.J. Brown
The New England Patriots upgraded nicely at wide receiver by acquiring Pro Bowler A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles. As you might expect, Patriots star QB Drake Maye has some thoughts on his new teammate.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Maye admitted that it's been tough not to get too excited over having Brown on the team. He gave Brown every compliment he could think of and believes Brown's winning mentality will work well on the Patriots.
"It's hard not to get excited," Maye said. "What a player he is. You start off the bat, what a great teammate so far. I mean, he's eager to learn, he's great with the guys in the locker room, and just look forward to playing with a guy of that caliber. I know he's been a great player in this league. Everywhere he's gone, he's been a guy that you see on SportsCenter the next day making plays, scoring.
"And the best thing about him is he's been a winner. He knows what it's like to win. And, obviously, adds something to that room that… we were kinda looking for. That's the best thing I think Stef provided for us last year, and [we have] guys that are growing in their roles. But just coming in with that stature, his ability, and his size - just the respect that you walk in there with that kind of Stef had, A.J.'s got it, too."
Maye said that any pass that gets thrown Brown's way has the potential to be a big play and he's looking forward to getting him the ball.
"It's really just on me to give him a chance to touch it, because more times than not, he's going to bring it in," Maye said. "So, that's exciting. And just knowing that a slant or something, a quick out - something that you can just give him the ball, he can break some tackles. He's tough to tackle, and guys don't want to tackle him."
A.J. Brown in New England
The numbers alone should give Patriots fans the confidence to consider themselves frontrunners in the AFC, if not the NFL. On top of bringing back most of the core of the team that went 14-3 and reached the Super Bowl just one year ago, they now add a wide receiver who gets over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns even in his bad years.
Brown had four straight 1,000-yard seasons while he was with the Philadelphia Eagles from 2022 to 2025, and was a key player in their 2024 Super Bowl team too.
It's also worth noting that he was a key cog in the Tennessee Titans' playoff success from 2019 to 2021 under Mike Vrabel - who is once again his head coach in New England.
It's going to be another great year of Patriots football.
