X Games, Aspen Snowmass Sign Three-Year Partnership

In the near future, Aspen, Colorado, will continue to be a regular roost for the X Games as it unveils a new team-based format.

In a press release, Aspen Snowmass and the action sports circuit announced that they had signed a three-year deal to bring the inaugural X Games League to Buttermilk ski resort through the 2028-29 season.

"Aspen Snowmass is where the best in freeskiing and snowboarding come to compete at the highest levels every year," said John Rigney, chief Business development officer at Aspen One, in the release.

"We've proudly partnered with X Games for more than 25 years because we love their commitment to showcasing the energy and vibrancy of our sports on a global scale, while delivering an elevated experience for athletes and spectators alike," he continued. "We can't wait to do it again."

The X Games League marks a significant shift for X Games, adding a draft, clubs, multiple events throughout the winter, and a season-long push for the overall title-all elements that make X Games more like mainstream sports. As a longtime partner to X Games, Aspen clearly wants to stick around for the shakeup, and will host the first-ever winter stop of the X Games League.

"As the X Games League expands globally, Aspen remains our crown jewel, the iconic winter stop that athletes, fans, and partners circle on the calendar every year," said Jeremy Bloom, X Games CEO, in the release.

The first winter draft of the X Games League is planned for September 16 in Los Angeles. During it, 40 skiers and snowboarders will earn a spot on four clubs. A winter club for New York has been confirmed, but X Games has yet to announce the other three.

Big names in freeskiing like Eileen Gu, Alex Hall, and Nick Goepper are all set to participate in the draft.

Meanwhile, the summer leg of the X Games League is about to kick off, with the first event planned to start on June 26 in Sacramento, California.
