Atlanta Dream Star Angel Reese Makes WNBA History In Chicago Return
WNBA star Angel Reese received a warm welcome on her return to Chicago for the first time since her offseason trade to the Atlanta Dream, and she responded with another standout performance, helping Atlanta secure an 82-75 win at Wintrust Arena.
Reese finished the game with 17 points, 17 rebounds, four assists, and two steals in 35 minutes while shooting 5-of-12 from the field. It marked her fifth straight double-double this season and eighth in 11 games, while also making her the first Dream player in franchise history to record 17 or more rebounds in back-to-back games.
The performance added another remarkable chapter to Reese's already impressive résumé. Her 57th career double-double is the highest total ever recorded by a WNBA player through their first 75 games and places her alongside Blake Griffin for the second-most double-doubles through that span across NBA and WNBA history. Only Shaquille O'Neal recorded more (63).
While questions about her scoring efficiency continue to surface, Reese has consistently impacted games with her rebounding, energy, and all-around presence. The latest milestone further highlights the historic pace at which she has begun her professional career.
Despite adding to her growing list of accomplishments, the 24-year-old was happier to help the Dream secure their eighth win of the season.
"I mean it doesn't matter unless I get a win," Reese said postgame. "I was able to get a lot of double-doubles my first two years (in Chicago), but it feels good when you get a win. So I'm really happy to be with the Dream. I'm really excited and we continue to march on for this Commissioner Cup."
Reese was traded to the Dream before the 2026 season for first-round picks in 2027 and 2028, and has gotten off to an impressive start, averaging 13.6 points, 12.2 rebounds, and 3.2 assists through 11 games.
She leads the WNBA in both total rebounds and offensive rebounds (5.5 per game), while her eight double-doubles are tied with Connecticut Sun rookie Aneesah Morrow for the most this season. The Dream has also thrived when Reese reaches that mark, posting a 7-1 record in games where she records a double-double.
With the win, the Dream improved to 8-3 and owns the third-best winning percentage in the league while sitting atop the Eastern Conference standings. They will now return home to face Breanna Stewart and the New York Liberty at Gateway Center Arena on Thursday.
