Mike McDaniel and Chargers Urged to Part Ways with Offensive Talent

Mike McDaniel is serving as offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers, and it’s shaping up to be a great fit for him, since he’s such an offensive-minded coach. Now, McDaniel is being urged to cut ties with an offensive talent ahead of the start of the new season.

Moe Moton of Bleacher Report has published a list where he names one blockbuster trade each franchise should make before the 2026 season starts. “We could get more transactional fireworks this summer, or at least see moves that we expected teams to make, like the Brown deal, before final roster cuts on August 30,” he states.

For the Chargers, he thinks they can part with running back Kimani Vidal and get something decent in return.

“In 2025, Kimani Vidal proved that he can handle the workload of a lead ball-carrier,” he states in the piece. “As a fill-In starter for Omarion Hampton, who missed several weeks with an ankle injury, Vidal logged at least 18 carries in four of his 10 starts and rushed for at least 117 yards in three of those outings.”

Vidal also led the team with 643 rushing yards for the 2025 season and averaged 4.1 yards per carry. But, Moton points out that “the Chargers signed running back Keaton Mitchell and hired offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel, who favors speed at the skill positions.”

Frankly, I don’t see the Chargers parting with a player who’s just now peaking and showing that he’s become a real contender. But, if they want to set up their future with draft picks, Vidal would likely draw a strong package.
