Home course suits Jack Dukeminier at Royal Oaks Invitational
Local knowledge paid off for Jack Dukeminier.
The Royal Oaks Country Club member won the Royal Oaks Invitational by one stroke on Sunday.
Starting the final round in a four-way tie for first place at even par, Dukeminier finished 1-under par for the three-day tournament.
That was one shot better than Nilay Naik of the Lake Oswego, Ore., at the 69th annual event that draws top amateurs from across the Northwest.
Dukeminier played for the University of Oregon from 2007-11. The 37 year old co-founded Portland-based Blue River Capital Management and has remained a one of the region's top golfers, qualifying for the U.S. Amateur Championship numerous times.
Playing in the final group, Dukeminier bogeyed the par-4 first hole. It would be his only hiccup of the day.
Dukeminier made par on the next 11 holes before posting birdies on holes 13 and 15. He finished the final round with a 1-under 71.
Naik just completed his sophomore season at the University of Michigan. The 2024 Oregon Junior Amateur champion shot even-par 72 Sunday, including a birdie on the par-4 18th.
Dukeminier netted $1,600 in prize money - $1,000 as overall champion and $600 for winning the junior-senior division (35 and over). Naik earned $600 for winning the championship division (35-under).
Vidur Subramaniam led by as many as three strokes after birdieing five of the first six holes on Sunday.
The Australian, who just finished his freshman season at the University of Washington, began the day at 3-over. He finished third after shooting 4-over on the back nine to finish even-par for the day.
Graham Moody finished tied for fourth at 5-over par. The 2018 state champion at Mountain View High School played for the University of Wisconsin before graduating in 2025.
Moody began Sunday two shots off the lead. He was 4-over for the round before birdies on holes 15 and 17.
Brett Johnson, who was the 1A state champion in 2011 for Ridgefield High School, began Sunday tied for the lead. He finished tied for sixth after shooting 78 to finish 6-over for the event.
