Lawsuit Filed Ahead Of UFC Freedom 250 At White House

A lawsuit has been filed ahead of the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House later this month.

The event, which will take place on the White House lawn on Sunday, June 14, coincides with President Trump's 80th birthday. The event will be streaming live on Paramount Plus. However, a new lawsuit has been filed, as it attempts to stop the event from taking place next weekend.

The lawsuit, according to a report from Jack Dunn in Variety, claims that the UFC event is in violation of the laws of the National Park Service, which could prevent a special athletics event from taking place at the White House.

Two residents of Virginia filed the lawsuit ahead of the UFC Freedom 250 event in Washington, D.C. this weekend.

The lawsuit claims that statutes laid out by the National Park Service claim "no special events of any sort, including any sporting events, may be held on the South Lawn or at the Lincoln Memorial. Nor may structures be erected on the South Lawn without express authorization from Congress and a thorough environmental review."

Conflicts of interest are alleged, too

The lawsuit claims that the event is not a celebration of America, but rather a promotion for the UFC and a celebration of President Trump's birthday.

"[The event] is not in any material sense a ‘celebration of the 250th anniversary of American Independence'-it is, instead, a celebration of the UFC's brand and the 80th anniversary of Donald Trump's birth," the suit reads, per Variety. "For these reasons, UFC Freedom 250 does not satisfy the strict conditions that must be satisfied for special semiquincentennial events to occur on the South Lawn or at the Lincoln Memorial."

With the UFC event set to take place this weekend, the odds of the lawsuit halting the event are likely extremely low.

However, it's clear that not everyone is in support of it, regardless of what President Trump might say.
