Why Caitlin Clark Doesn't Want the Knicks To Sweep Spurs in NBA Finals
The New York Knicks are on an incredible playoff run and hold a 2-0 lead over the San Antonio Spurs in the 2026 NBA Finals. They are favorites to complete a sweep as the series shifts to Madison Square Garden for Games 3 and 4, but Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is hoping it doesn't end that quickly.
After defeating the Atlanta Hawks in six games in the first round, the Knicks have been nearly unstoppable, sweeping both the Philadelphia Sixers in the Eastern Conference semifinals and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Spurs, meanwhile, battled through a competitive Western Conference, defeating the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games to reach the Finals for the first time since 2014. With San Antonio led by superstar Victor Wembanyama and hosting the first two games, many expected a tightly contested series, but New York has seized control.
No team in NBA history has won the championship after losing the first two Finals games at home, putting the Knicks in prime position to capture their first title since 1973. While Clark does not have a favorite in the series, she is hoping it goes the distance.
"I'm a fan of basketball, so I love great games," Clark said after the Fever-Liberty matchup. "I don't want the Knicks to sweep it. I'm kind of indifferent on who wins, but I'm just such a basketball fan that I would love to see it go to seven games, just because I think it's been such a great series. And even the Spurs beating the Thunder was incredible too. You can learn so much. So, I try to absorb as much as I can."
Clark is a fan of MLB's New York Yankees and the NFL's Kansas City Chiefs, but she has never publicly aligned herself with a particular NBA team. What she does admire, however, is the passion of Knicks fans.
"I was out to dinner last night, and it was fun to just see the buzz around the city, and how passionate fans are," the two-time WNBA All-Star added. "And I was joking with Lexi [Hull], I'm like, man, we should have got gone right outside MSG after they [won], because I always want to see those people. I feel like that would be the experience.
"I don't know if my security guy would let me do that, but I want to. I want to experience that, because those Knicks fans are, they're so passionate and crazy. I admire it. It's pretty awesome."
Whether the series reaches a Game 7 remains to be seen. The potential decider is scheduled for June 19, though Clark is unlikely to attend, as the Fever are set to play the Atlanta Dream on both June 18 and June 19.
As for the WNBA, the Fever fell 83-75 to the Liberty on Saturday night. Clark finished with 10 points, nine assists, and seven rebounds, but continued foul trouble proved costly. Indiana will now look to bounce back against the Washington Mystics on Monday at CareFirst Arena.
