Is Cristiano Ronaldo Playing Tonight for Portugal vs. Chile?

Portugal will face Chile in their final pre-World Cup friendly today, with all signs pointing to Cristiano Ronaldo starting the match tonight.

Portugal are in the middle of their final preparations before heading to North America for the 2026 World Cup, and this game is one of the last chances for Roberto Martínez to lock in his system, shape his best XI, and get his key players into rhythm before the tournament opener against DR Congo on June 17.

Ronaldo, now 41, has been fully involved in training and remains central to everything Portugal are building around this squad. There's no suggestion of injury or fitness concern, and he should captain the team once again.

Cristiano Ronaldo Set to Play for Portugal vs. Chile

All indications from camp are that Ronaldo will start in Portugal's 4–2–3–1 setup, leading the attack as the main reference point up front. If he takes the field, it will be his 227th appearance for the national team, the most-capped men's player of all time.

And in many ways, the timing makes sense for him to play against Chile.

Portugal are missing 4 key PSG players : Vitinha, João Neves, Nuno Mendes, and Gonçalo Ramos , who have been given extended rest after a long PSG season topped by winning the Champions League. That naturally changes the look of the squad, especially in midfield creativity and attacking rotations.

Without those names, Ronaldo's role becomes even more important. Roberto Martínez is expected to use this match to test combinations around him, but Ronaldo remains the constant.
