Giants 26-Year-Old All-Star Emerging as 'Sneaky' Trade Candidate
It's turning into a season to forget for the San Francisco Giants and first-year manager Tony Vitello. They're 25-38 going into their Friday matchup against the Chicago Cubs. The postseason doesn't appear likely, as they're currently 8.5 games back of a wild-card spot.
Their lack of success has made them one of the most intriguing teams, with the trade deadline set for Aug. 3. With the 11th-highest payroll in MLB ($199 million), the Giants are expected to be sellers at the Aug. 3 trade deadline.
The Giants have had several prominent players come up in trade speculation, including starting pitcher Robbie Ray and first basemanLuis Arraez.
However, in an article by Bleacher Report, Tim Kelly lists outfielder Heliot Ramos as one player that San Francisco may attempt to move on from.
"Ramos-a 26-year-old under team control through the 2029 season-might be a sneaky trade candidate, because contenders could easily convince themselves there's more to unlock there," Kelly wrote.
The one-time All-Star is putting together a solid season for the Giants. He has appeared in 44 games, accumulating 165 at-bats, 44 hits, four home runs, 19 runs scored, 20 RBIs and 10 walks. He is also slashing .267/.307/.424 with a .731 OPS.
His age and production make him an intriguing trade candidate for contending teams, but so does his team control. Ramos is not set to hit free agency until the 2030 season because he has three more years of arbitration.
For now, Ramos remains an important part of the team's roster, but if a team presents an enticing offer, the Giants could decide that bolstering their future is worth the cost of moving a controllable player.
