49ers Praised for Osa Odighizuwa Move in NFL Offseason

The San Francisco 49ers rounded out their 2025 season with a 12-5 record, and while that would have been good enough to top some divisions in the NFL, in the competitive NFC West, it left the team at No. 3 out of four teams. So, changes are being made, and one was bringing on defensive tackle Osa Odighizuwa from the Cowboys.

In a feature published last week, Mike Sando of The Athletic names his favorite moves for each NFL franchise during the league’s offseason.

He gives the team high marks for the Odighizuwa move.

“Odighizuwa has played in 84 consecutive regular-season games, the longest active streak for defensive tackles,” he states in the piece. “That makes him a reliable addition at a position of great need for a 49ers team that is trying to win now. Banking on a defensive tackle in the draft would have been a riskier proposition. Instead, the 49ers sent a third-round pick to the Cowboys for a player with 17 sacks in five seasons.”

Odighizuwa brings experience to the 49ers, and that’s something their roster needs going into 2025. Going up against the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams isn’t going to be easy next season, but the 49ers are positioning themselves as best they can. It was a smarter move than getting a defensive tackle in the draft, because Odighizuwa is a known commodity.
