Lions Receive Unfortunate News Ahead of 2026 NFL Season
The Detroit Lions have suffered an early setback before the 2026 NFL season even begins, with rookie wide receiver Kendrick Law ruled out for the year after tearing his ACL during practice.
Head coach Dan Campbell confirmed the injury on Thursday, revealing that Law suffered the torn ligament during Tuesday's OTA session.
NFL analyst Ari Meirov reported, "Lions 5th-round WR Kendrick Law suffered a torn ACL in practice this week and will miss the entire 2026 NFL season. The injury was non-contact," making the news even more disappointing for both the player and the organization.

Law, selected 168th overall in the fifth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, was expected to provide valuable depth behind Detroit's established receiving group of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams and second-year receiver Isaac TeSlaa.
The Lions traded up 13 spots to draft the former Kentucky standout, viewing him as a versatile offensive weapon and a potential replacement for Kalif Raymond, who departed in free agency. Instead, Law's rookie season will now be spent rehabbing, with a return likely targeted for the start of the 2027 campaign.
The injury leaves Detroit with immediate questions about its receiving depth and special teams plans. Greg Dortch, signed earlier this offseason, is now positioned to take on a larger role in both the slot and return game. Veterans Cedrick Wilson Jr. and Tom Kennedy, along with younger options Dominic Lovett, should see increased opportunities throughout training camp.
From a roster-building standpoint, the loss is significant despite Law's projected depth role. Detroit valued his speed, versatility and special teams potential, traits that helped make him a priority target on draft weekend.
The good news for the Lions is that their top receiving trio remains intact. St. Brown and Williams combined for over 2,500 receiving yards last season, while TeSlaa is expected to take another step forward in 2026.
Still, losing a draft pick before training camp opens is never ideal. Detroit's depth will now face an early test as the team prepares for another playoff push.
