Victor Wembanyama Places Blame After Knicks Comeback

The San Antonio Spurs saw Game 1 of the NBA Finals slip out of their grasp as the New York Knicks closed the game on an 11-0 run to win 105-95.

An offensive rebound from Miles Bridges eventually led to a Jalen Brunson 3-pointer that kicked off the team’s run. Spurs star Victor Wembanyama admitted San Antonio allowed New York to grab the momentum that eventually won the Knicks the game.

“We let them get an offensive rebound, so that’s on us,” he said. “After that, that’s an experienced team. They know how to play with momentum. We had the momentum until late in that game.”

“That’s why I said we let that one go. It’s almost not like I have anything to figure out. It’s almost like I have to play normal, not even good [in Game 2],” he added.

“It’s just [about] doing the right things enough. When we play bad, when I play bad, is when we shoot ourselves in the foot. This is why I’m not worried. We’re going to be so much better. I’m going to be so much better.”

Wembanyama finished with a team-high 26 points and 12 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to lead the Spurs to victory. He was just 2 of 9 from 3-point range, taking the second-most 3-point attempts on the team.
