Bears' Ben Johnson Halts Press Conference After Repeated Interruptions

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson seemed all business on Wednesday at his press conference during OTA offseason workouts, as he refused to let any interruptions occur.

The head coach is entering his second season at the Bears’ helm and looking to build on the success of their 2024-25 season, which included star quarterback Caleb Williams and the team achieving the No. 2 seed in the NFC and reaching the Divisional Round of the NFL Playoffs.

Williams’ improvement and ability to make incredible on-the-fly plays were certainly among the keys to the Bears’ run. Still, many believe that having Johnson as the young QB’s new coach really elevated things.

Johnson is an intense coach on the sidelines, demonstrating it last season in some of his interviews before, during, and after games. While speaking to the media today, Johnson seemed visibly frustrated during one moment at the podium.

As Johnson was answering a reporter’s question, a phone rang loudly in the room, and Johnson said, “Oh my.”

“You good?” he said, looking at someone off camera, before shaking his head in frustration.

A reporter began to ask a question, but it was soon interrupted by the sound of a ringing phone, which was apparently sitting on the podium near Johnson.

That prompted the Bears’ head coach to halt the interview mid-question due to multiple phone interruptions.

“Does somebody wanna take their phone? So I’m not interrupted again,” he said, picking it up to hand off to someone off-camera.

Those frequent interruptions seemed to leave Johnson somewhat irritated, but he quickly addressed the situation, which shows just how focused he is on the Bears already.

Before last season, Chicago hired Johnson as its new coach after his time as the offensive coordinator under Dan Campbell with the Detroit Lions. Johnson quickly delivered results through his player relationship-building and strategic in-game coaching, guiding the team into the postseason.

That said, he’ll now face pressure to either repeat last season’s success or improve upon it. A regression wouldn’t be the worst thing yet, but it will give the critics plenty of ammunition to suggest that either Johnson, Williams, or something isn’t right with the Bears.

They face what is considered the toughest schedule of any team in the coming season. If Johnson can navigate it effectively and guide his players to another playoff appearance, he’ll likely continue to receive the praise he deserves.
