Caleb Williams Joins Elite Company as Madden 27 Cover Athlete
Caleb Williams led the Chicago Bears to a magical and memorable NFL season, featuring highlight plays that often felt straight out of a video game.
It’s only fitting that the emerging young superstar will now grace the cover of the Madden NFL 27 video game, where others can experience playing as the “Iceman” on the football field.
The immense rise in Williams’ popularity last season came as he helped the Bears win key regular-season games, earn a No. 2 seed in the NFC Playoffs, and reach the NFC Divisional Round. That put him on the radar as a player capable of delivering big results, despite earlier criticisms about him in his career.
He’ll now join a list of other superstar quarterbacks to appear as the cover athlete, with the Bears’ QB hoping to follow in the footsteps of those greats after appearing on his first-ever Madden cover.

Various sources unveiled the upcoming video game’s cover on Wednesday, including NFL insider Ian Rapoport, who shared an image on his X.
The new Madden cover features Williams making his memorable throw against the Green Bay Packers, in a pose that closely resembles Michael Jordan’s famous dunking pose, which became his logo.
What makes the cover even more unique is that it features him in midair, preparing to throw, with the city of Chicago pictured in the background at what appears to be night.
“He went from people saying he was a bust a few years ago to superstar Madden cover boy. That was fast,” a commenter wrote.
“I don't know if he's the logical pick, but sure. Great QB, young, flashy,” another commenter wrote.
One individual wrote, “They really put my QB on the cover of Madden with a throw he made against the Packers.”
In his sophomore season, Williams threw for 3,942 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also racked up 388 rushing yards and another seven touchdowns on the ground.
Many expect there’s a lot more to come from the Chicago Bears with their young, dynamic quarterback. Previous quarterbacks on the Madden cover have included Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes, both of whom are now considered elite or GOATs at the position.
Brady, now retired, is the all-time greatest with his seven Super Bowl rings and many other accolades. Patrick Mahomes has become recognized as the current superstar QB in the NFL with three Super Bowl rings and his achievements.
Williams still has a ways to go to catch those greats, but based on what he’s shown so far, the future looks bright for Chicago. However, one can’t help but fear for Williams and the Bears in the near future due to the dreaded Madden cover athlete curse.
The Madden 27 video game arrives in August, with further details on EA’s official website.
