NRFI and YRFI MLB Bets Today: Best First Inning Predictions for Wednesday, June 3
It's an exciting time of year for sports. The Stanley Cup Final and NBA Finals are underway, and the NFL continues to deliver steady headlines, but Major League Baseball continues to hold its footing in the sports cycle.
We like a YRFI in the matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, even though RHP Shohei Ohtani is pitching. We also like an NRFI in a matchup we cashed a YRFI the previous day with the Detroit Tigers vs. Tampa Bay Rays. We also like the NRFI in the Cleveland Guardians-New York Yankees matchup showcasing each other's aces.

Best NRFI and YRFI Bets Today
Los Angeles Dodgers at Arizona Diamondbacks YRFI (+100)
We're coming in hot with this one, even though it's a little risky. The Dodgers have Shohei Ohtani on the hill, and he has been awesome on the mound. He has yet to allow an earned run in the first inning, so we're keyed in on Diamondbacks RHP Zac Gallen, who is 3-4 with a 5.16 ERA. He has a 6.00 ERA in 12 first innings on the season. However, he has been scored upon in the first in four of his last six starts. Overall, he has allowed 27 ER in his last six starts. Gallen is also 0-1 with a 9.00 ERA and 1.75 WHIP in one start against the Dodgers this season. The fireworks could come early.
Detroit Tigers at Tampa Bay Rays NRFI (-110)
We nailed a YRFI at +105 in this matchup Tuesday, but we're liking the NRFI Wednesday. RHP Troy Melton makes just his third start of the season, but his first two turns have gone well. He's 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA and a .178 opponents' batting average. He hasn't given up a run in the first. Rays RHP Nick Martinez also hasn't been scored on in the opening inning. In 11 first frames, he has allowed just seven hits with 10 K's and no runs.
Cleveland Guardians at New York Yankees NRFI (-135)
We have a premium pitching matchup in this one. Guardians ace Gavin Williams toes the rubber at 8-3 with a 3.07 ERA. He has a 3.75 ERA in the first inning, but opponents hit just .209 during the frame with 18 K's in 12 starts. He also hasn't allowed an earned run in the first in four consecutive starts. Yankees ace Gerrit Cole has impressed in his first two starts back from injury. He's 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and 12 K's in 12 2/3 IP. Since he has no earned runs allowed, obviously, he has kept the first inning clean.
What Does NRFI and YRFI Mean in Baseball?
The term NRFI indicates no runs scored in the first inning. Its opposite, YRFI, indicates yes, a run will be scored in the first inning. It doesn't matter if the run qualifies as an earned run or not. If a run crosses the plate in the first inning for either team, the wager loses for the NRFI side and wins for the YRFI side.
