49ers' Trent Williams Reacts to Having to Face Myles Garrett Twice a Year

Before Monday morning, the San Francisco 49ers, Seattle Seahawks, and Los Angeles Rams all appeared to be on pretty even footing heading into the 2026 season.

But after Monday's blockbuster trade that sent two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett from the Cleveland Browns to the Rams in exchange for Pro Bowl edge-rusher Jared Verse, plus first-, second-, and third-round picks, the balance of power has no doubt shifted in L.A.'s favor.

While seemingly no one on the 49ers or Seahawks roster is thrilled to be having to face Garrett twice a year now, perhaps no one is affected by Garrett's arrival than 49ers offensive tackle Trent Williams.

Shortly after the trade was announced on Monday, Williams was asked how he feels about having to defend the best defensive player in the NFL.

"Have you lost any sleep over Myles Garrett?" Matt Lively of NBC Sports Bay Area asked.

"Not yet, but I'm sure I will," Williams said with a smirk.

"What is it that makes him so good?" Lively followed up.

"Everything," Williams stated. "He can do everything. He's one of the best that's ever played, and he has no weaknesses."

Williams made his thoughts on Garrett pretty clear after last year's Week 13 game against the Browns - a 26-8 victory for San Francisco, in which Garrett logged eight pressures, five hurries, two QB hits, and one sack while going primarily against Williams.

"I don't care if I ever see your [expletive] on the field," Williams told Garrett during their postgame embrace. "Best ever, bro. You're the best ever, bro."

Most agree Garrett's addition elevates the Rams defense into the top five of the league.

L.A. now boasts four top-tier pass-rushers along its defensive line with Garrett (84 pressures, 45 hurries, an NFL record 23 sacks, 14 QB hits), Byron Young (74 pressures, 41 hurries, 20 QB hits, 12 sacks), Kobie Turner (69 pressures, 51 hurries, 10 QB hits, seven sacks), and Braden Fiske (50 pressures, 37 hurries, eight QB hits, three sacks).

Williams and the rest of the 49ers offensive line - a group that also features guards Dominick Puni and Connor Colby, center Jake Brendel, and right tackle Colton McKivitz - have their work cut out for them when they play the Rams in Weeks 1 and 14 next season.
