'Embarrassing' Play At Women's College World Series Sparks Debate

The 2026 Women's College World Series continued on ESPN on Monday evening, June 1.

Texas Tech faced Alabama in an elimination game. The Red Raiders needed a huge win to stay alive in the tournament. And they got one. Mia Williams, the daughter of former NBA point guard Jason Williams, hit a walkoff home run to keep the Red Raiders alive in the Women's College World Series.

The Red Raiders improved to 3-1 in the tournament, while the Crimson Tide dropped to 2-1. Both teams are still alive.

However, earlier in the game, a play went viral, sparking a debate about the Women's College World Series.

The play was a bad one. Alabama's left fielder should've came up with that home run ball, no doubt about it. She was clearly frustrated with herself, too.

But the post has sparked a debate online. Some fans are defending the quality of play at the Women's College World Series, while others are criticizing the effort made on the home run on Monday evening.

"She's a Senior!!! Jump out of your cleats to catch that! Terrible effort," one fan added.

"She was obviously upset about it and people commenting on it doesn't help," one fan added.

"She jumps , catches that. It changes everything," one fan added.
