Brewers' Ace Takes Home NL Player of the Week Honors

It was perhaps one of the greatest months for a starting pitcher in the history of MLB. It wasn't just the statistics, but the pure dominance that Milwaukee Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski had over his opponents. The young star capped off his historic month with National League Player of the Week honors.

Misiorowski closed out May with another dominant start against the Houston Astros, striking out eight batters in seven scoreless innings. In the final week of the month, the Miz posted a 2-0 record with 20 strikeouts in 14.0 innings pitched. He allowed just one earned run, giving him a 0.65 ERA in his two starts.

Just how dominant was Misiorowski's May? The flamethrower went a perfect 5-0, recording 57 strikeouts and posting a minuscule 0.23 ERA. So far in 2026, Misiorowski has already thrown more pitches of 100 mph or faster than any other pitcher in a single season in MLB history.

The records for Misiorowski are piling up with every start he makes. On May 25th, Misiorowski broke the single-game record for most pitches at 100 mph or faster with 57. The previous record was 47, set in 2022 by Hunter Greene.

But it is not just Misiorowski's counting stats that have made this season impressive. In May, he had just a 4.4% walk rate compared to a staggering 41.9% strikeout rate. Batters facing him hit just .109 for the month, and in 38.1 innings of work, his WHIP sat at a non-existent 0.52.

On Monday's edition of Intentional Talk on MLB Network, Misiorowski spoke about how much it meant to be named the NL Player of the Week.

"It's awesome. It's kind of crazy to say I was the best this week over a lot of other guys, but it's really cool."

Despite all of this, Misiorowski is still not a runaway leader for the NL Cy Young Award. Philadelphia Phillies ace Cristopher Sanchez is nearly matching Misiorowski's historic stat line, and he did not allow a single run over five starts in May. Sanchez was named the NL Player of the Week for the first week of the month.

This is Misiorowski's first NL Player of the Week Award, although at this rate, it looks like it will be a common occurrence throughout his career. Misiorowski's next start is lined up to be against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field later this week.
