Clatskanie's Lacey Willis smiles at the podium after taking the state title in the 2A high jump event at the OSAA 2A Girls State Track & Field Championships on Thursday, May 28, at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

The junior also won the high jump during her freshman year. She said she overtrained for the event last season, and her legs just couldn't handle it.

"I was jumping with exhausted legs," Willis said.

She placed first again this season despite Clatskanie not having a high jump coach. Instead, she said she received training and coaching through attending various clinics. Willis acknowledged her parents and her teammates for their support.

She also took second place in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet, 4.25 inches. She said she hadn't participated in the long jump since her freshman year, but started it up again this season and kept setting new PRs despite putting little time into the event.
