Colts Gets Kudos for How They Handled the Daniel Jones Situation

The Indianapolis Colts have a lot of excitement surrounding the franchise going into the 2026 season, largely because of having a star quarterback on their hands in Daniel Jones.

While Jones never really bloomed during all of his years with the New York Giants, he’s clocking some of the best numbers of his career in Indianapolis.

Mike Sando of The Athletic names his favorite moves for each NFL team during the league’s offseason.

“A case can be made that the Colts didn’t need to tag Jones at all, because he would have given them a chance to match an outside offer. But why take chances with your starting quarterback?” he states in the piece. “The transition tag gave Indy the protection it needed before signing him to a two-year deal at the franchise-tag value.

“The situation was a little complicated because Jones started hot for the Colts, trailed off and then suffered a torn Achilles tendon. The solution wound up being straightforward.”

My Analysis: What Daniel Jones Brings to the Colts

Jones is a classic case of a player who never really excelled because he didn’t have the right support around him. The Giants have been struggling as a franchise for years, and their lack of support for Jones on offense led to his problems in New York.

But he’s thriving with the Colts, and this franchise has hope again because of what Jones is bringing, so expect an exciting 2026 on the horizon.
